Because my husband works in the movie industry, we like to make a big deal of the Oscars. So this year we hosted our own little Oscar party! Our friends brought little ballots for all of us to fill out before the show of what we thought would win each category. We kept score of who got the most right throughout the night. Jonny won. He’s very proud. I decided to tackle a few recipes I had never tried before. Homemade popcorn, homemade candy salted caramels, and a few mixed drinks that were dedicated to my 3 favorite movies this year. But I will get back to that later.
For now I have a little gripe. Yes, Matthew, you played an AMAZING role in Dallas Buyers Club, but for goodness sakes!!!!! I was soooooo ready for Leo to win. I can’t believe how disappointed I was that he lost. He has had such an amazing career and has never been in a bad movie, in my opinion. It was only this past year that Matthew McConaughey decided to start doing movies other than chick flicks. (Although I know he has a few good movies from way back like A Time To Kill, U-571, and a maybe a few more). Please don’t get me wrong. It was incredible how he lost the weight that he did for his role in DBC. Not to mention his performance was extremely moving. I do like him as an actor!!!! But lets talk about all the outstanding movies Leonardo DiCaprio has played lead actor in…. Inception, Titanic, The Departed, The Aviator, The Great Gatsby, J. Edgar, Shutter Island, Revolutionary Road, Blood Diamond, Catch Me If You Can, The Beach, The Man in the Iron Mask, Romeo + Juliet, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (supporting), and many more!!!!! Have I made my point yet???? Matthew I love ya! But Leo, I love you more. I have ever since Growing Pains… 😉
Moving on! I had a little fun matching fun cocktails to my three favorite movies this year- The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club and Her. Try them out and let me know what you think!
I chose to do a brandy sour for The Wolf of Wall Street because I have always seen brandy as a business man’s drink. All the work, ingredients, and money that goes into making this drink are all reminiscent of Leo’s climb to the top in this movie.
This fun drink combines both Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto’s characters in Dallas Buyers Club. The beer for Matthew and the pink lemonade for Jared. And lastly the vodka, a harsh liquor, to bring the two together.
In addition to these fun drinks, I provided few homemade snacks!
